Warhammer vs World of Warcraft?
I played World of Warcraft for years and became highly addicted and finally quit, but am now building a new gaming build and was wondering if I should give Warhammer a shot. How does it compare to World of Warcraft? I know it\’s not out and so you can\’t really know but I haven\’t read much on Warhammer and want to know from someone who has been heavily looking into it what they believe.Thank you!
First Step
Well Rob, I played WoW for about 7-8 months before I quit. I leveled a NE Druid to 70 and got bored of it pretty quickly. The constant quest for “pHaT LeWt” got old.
I played in the Warhammer Closed Beta and I can tell you some of the differences. The graphics in WAR are MUCH better than WoW. The characters look better, the world looks better, and the spell effects are ALOT better. The RVR (pvp) is an integral part of the game. If you want to play a scenario (similar to a WoW BG) you can join the queue from anywhere. Theres different scenarios for each of the different zones.
There’s open world RVR areas that you run into and fight and try to capture territory (just being in these areas will flag you for pvp while you’re there).
When you start, no matter whether you’re Order or Destruction, you begin in the middle of a battle, so it feels like you’re in the war effort right away. Even if you don’t want to do the pvp aspects of the game, theres plenty of quests and sightseeing to do.
Getting into a group is VERY easy in WAR. Theres an open group system that you can invite yourself into a group or warband (a warband is like a raid group) from anywhere in the zone. It even tells you how many minutes travel it’ll take for you to get to the group.
Also, the travelling between zones is MUCH better than in WoW. Instead of the “real time” flight that you had to endure (which I despised), it’ll take you to the zone loading screen after a short animation of your character taking off (a wyvern for Destruction, a gyrocopter for Order).
Also, I think the careers/classes in WAR are pretty neat. They all have character (pun intended). Every class in WOW has a close counterpart that you can easily transition to.
I think its worth a look if you want something different. Hope to see you on Sept 18th!

- From what i hear many wow players are quitting to start warhammer so if i were u i would give it a shot
- Well to begin with, Warhammer is nothing like wow. War was built with a RVR (pvp) mindset first and foremost. Wow was built around pve and end game pve raiding. War\’s pve content has much better material than I have ever seen in wow. Take for intancinstanceublic quests. This is one of the best things I have ever seen put into a game. You walk into an area and join others, not in your group, and work together to get the the goal for that quest and kill some sort of champion boss. There is a lot more to it but to tell you would spoil the fun. Experience it for yourself. War in my opinion if done right could seriously hurt Wow population numbers I love the game and returned my WoLK preorder and will never look back to wow.
